With an attractive,
reader-friendly color layout and accessible writing style, this text for pre-
and in-service teachers combines theoretical, technical, and experiential components.
Part I offers an overview of learning theories and instructional design.
Part II examines major categories of educational technology, such as digital
technologies, administrative and academic software, the Internet and the Web,
and audiovisual technologies. Part III explores distance education and alternative
delivery systems, and looks at issues associated with implementation of
technology in education, including ethical, legal, and social issues. Each
chapter includes an interchapter, about four pages long, focusing on special
topics such as using software to write grants to fund technology programs,
creating a class web site, and copyright and fair use. Other high-interest
features include profiles of real teachers, ideas for integrating software into
content areas, and rubrics for analyzing different technologies. The text's art
program offers up-to-date color photos of equipment and classroom uses, plus
color flow and process charts, visual concept organizers, and screenshots.
Margin icons point readers to two different companion web sites with videos, podcasts,
online activities, and exercises for building skills in Microsoft Office, Inspiration
and Kidspiration, and HyperStudio. Much of the web site material is new for
this edition. Lever-Duffy teaches computer science and education at Miami Dade
College. McDonald teaches educational technology at Lambuth University.
